SEO Settings

Configuring these settings will help search engines and accessibility systems better understand the context of your website.

Language & Country

SEO settings currently allow you to set a primary country and corresponding language to be added to your website HTML.

Doing this will help search engines and accessibility systems better understand the context of your website in terms of region and language settings.

This setting adds a lang="xx-XX" attribute to your websites <html> element. If your content template already includes a lang attribute the system will add another one rather than override the existing one. Be sure to remove any hard coded lang attributes if utilising this feature.

Sitemap.xml Settings

The “Enable Automation Of sitemap.xml” option, if checked, instructs the system to periodically re-generate the sitemap.xml file.

This is useful for keeping your sitemap.xml file updated with any newly created CMS items. However, the option to manually manage, or use 3rd party tools to manage your sitemap.xml is possible by disabling this option.

This option is disabled by default.

If enabling sitemap.xml automation you may also wish to adjust the domain name used for the sitemap item URLs. You can control this by adding your desired domain to the ‘Primary Domain (for sitemap.xml)’ field.

By default, the system will use the primary domain name entered when activating your site instance. However, this option allows you to adjust how the sitemap.xml file lists your site URLs, particularly for search engine indexing. For example, you may want to include, or exclude, the ‘www’ subdomain for search engine indexing.

Only the domain part of your domain name is required here. The protocol, such as ‘https://’, is not needed.

Ensure at least one of your CMS items/pages have the ‘Show this page for search engines’ option enabled (found under the ‘SEO’ tab when editing an item) for the sitemap.xml to generate correctly.

Exclude Module List

This multi-select option allows the selection of any system or custom module for exclusion from the sitemap.xml file (when set to auto-generate), regardless of the individual item’s ‘Show this page for search engines’ setting.

The items excluded by default are:

  • Author
  • Banner Group
  • Banner
  • FAQ Group
  • FAQ Question
  • Gallery/Slider
  • Slide
  • Page Folder

Global ‘Show for Search Engines’

All content items in Treepl CMS have the option ‘Show this page for search engines’ which allows its visibility to typical search engine crawling by way of removing the auto-generated meta tag <meta name="robots" content="noindex, nofollow"> from the HEAD of the document.

The 'Enable All' and 'Disable All' buttons here provide a global function for either enabling or disabling all CMS items (excluding those selected in the above 'Exclude Module List' setting) for search engine crawling.

All trial sites have the meta tag <meta name="robots" content="noindex, nofollow"> enforced, regardless of the ‘Show this page for search engines’ setting. However, you can still configure items with this setting as needed (or use the global enable/disable buttons) during development and the settings will be honored upon activation of the site.

Even if you don’t want all items changed in the same way, it’s often the case that only a few items are the exception and it’s therefore quicker to adjust only those items, after the global setting has been applied, rather than manually editing all items to begin with.
