Getting Started with eCommerce

With the recent release of eCommerce features there are some advanced system components that are being utilised for the overall functioning of eCommerce and these need to first be turned on. There are also some overall settings to configure that provide eCommerce with further context.

Step 1: Enable Beta features

To enable full eCommerce functionality first go to the gear icon in the top right of your site admin and choose ‘Beta Features’.

If not already, enable “Advanced payment flow” and “Advanced URL manager”.

It’s also advisable to enable “New liquid engine & nICE 2.0” since this will become the standard implementation and could perhaps later affect your eCommerce implementation, particularly if you make more advanced customisations using Liquid. However, enabling this option is not strictly required for eCommerce functionality.

Step 2: Domain Currency and Format

So that you can configure your eCommerce items completely you’ll want to ensure your domain/s are assigned to the appropriate country/cultural settings.

Going to ‘Settings’ > ‘Domains’ and under the first tab “Site Domains”, ensure the correct country is assigned (listed in the ‘Country’ column) to each domain added. If not, simply click on the current country name (which should be a blue link) to select another country and then click “Save”.

You’ll also want to assign some cultural and currency related settings for each domain (set under the ‘Currency and Format’ column). This is set to ‘Default’ to start with which cannot be changed directly. You’ll need to create additional Currency and Format options to assign here.

To do this, click on the ‘Currency and Format’ tab on the current Domains page and click the ‘Add New Format Setting’ button. Complete the fields as needed and save your new option. Now heading back to the ‘Site Domains’ tab you’ll be able to assign the new option to the appropriate domain name/s.

Step 3: Taxes

You’ll likely need to assign tax rules to various eCommerce related items (Product pricing, Shipping options...) so it’s best to set this up first.

Create tax rules under ‘eCommerce’ > ‘Taxes’ and click the “Add New Tax” button. Enter the required details and click “Save”.

If you are implementing all or many of the US State taxes you’ll be able to add these automatically when you click “Add New Tax” and select ‘United States’ as the assigned country.

Step 4: Add Products

Now you can go ahead and start creating (or importing) your Catalogs, Products and other eCommerce items.
